What is AAVE
Aave is one of the largest DeFi over-collateralized lending protocols with billions in TVL, deployed on Ethereum and several EVM chains. The AAVE token is used to vote on protocol parameters (fees, listings, risk parameters) and can be staked in the Safety Module — a backstop against protocol shortfalls — yielding around 5-10% APR but exposed to slashing. AAVE can also be supplied as collateral inside the Aave market itself.
Known risks
- ⚠Slashing risk when staking AAVE in the Safety Module (up to 30%)
- ⚠Protocol smart contract risk and liquidation bugs
- ⚠Reliance on price oracles — oracle manipulation can cause losses
- ⚠Regulatory risk for DeFi lending in the US and EU
