What is ADA

Cardano (ADA) is a Proof-of-Stake Layer-1 blockchain (Ouroboros consensus) known for its peer-reviewed, research-driven development. The ecosystem is split between the Cardano Foundation, IOHK and Emurgo. It was founded by Charles Hoskinson, an Ethereum co-founder. ADA is used for staking, transaction fees and on-chain voting via Project Catalyst.

Known risks

  • Slow development pace and late smart-contract rollout
  • Smaller DeFi ecosystem compared with Ethereum and Solana
  • Heavy reliance on the public persona of founder Charles Hoskinson
  • Drawdown of more than 90% from the all-time high
  • Competition from other PoS Layer-1s (Solana, Avalanche, Sui, Aptos)
