What is BTC
Bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency, created by Satoshi Nakamoto in 2009. It runs on its own proof-of-work blockchain. The most liquid and recognized cryptocurrency with the largest market capitalization. Yields are lower than stablecoins (typically 0.5-3% APY) because BTC has no built-in staking mechanism — interest is paid from crypto-lending or exchange arbitrage. Often used as a long-term store of value ("digital gold").
Known risks
- ⚠High price volatility (-50% or more during bear phases)
- ⚠Yields of 0.5-3% are significantly lower than stablecoins
- ⚠Counterparty risk when holding BTC on an exchange
- ⚠Regulatory risks — some countries restrict or ban it
