What is ETH
Ethereum is a blockchain platform for smart contracts and decentralized applications. After the 2022 switch to proof-of-stake, ETH can be staked with a base yield of ~3-5% per year. Liquid staking (via Lido, Rocket Pool and similar protocols) adds liquidity — staked ETH can still be used in DeFi. Centralized exchanges offer liquid staking at 5-7% APR, sometimes higher. High liquidity and wide adoption across DeFi.
Known risks
- ⚠High price volatility
- ⚠Slashing risk when staking (minimal on crypto exchanges)
- ⚠Regulatory risk — the SEC periodically considers classifying ETH as a security
- ⚠Network congestion and high fees during periods of peak activity
- ⚠Smart contract risks in DeFi protocols
