    Track record (2+ years incident-free)

Known incidents

1
  • September 2023 Hot-wallet hack via compromised private keys. Early estimates put it near $55M; CoinEx later stated roughly $70M itself, calling it "a small portion" of its assets. The Lazarus Group link comes from blockchain investigators, not from CoinEx. Withdrawals were paused and CoinEx publicly promised affected users 100% compensation. Stated plainly: we could not confirm that the compensation was actually paid in full — it is a promise, not a verified outcome. CoinEx's own announcements are closed to us; the exchange geo-blocks our region and redirects to a login form. Source →

Overview

CoinEx review: what this platform is

CoinEx paid the highest stablecoin rates on our board through June 2026 — 13.21% on USDT. Five weeks later it pays 3.3%. Nothing about its risk profile changed in between, and that is the most useful thing this page can tell you: the premium you were being paid for carrying CoinEx's risk has largely gone, while the risk itself has not.

The reasons for the D grade are concrete. It's operated by ViaBTC Group out of Hong Kong with no licensing from a major regulator; it has no real insurance fund (only small fee-funded buffers); and in September 2023 it was hit by a hot-wallet hack of roughly $70M (attributed to the Lazarus group). It does publish Merkle-tree proof-of-reserves (audited by SlowMist), which is the one bright spot — but proof-of-reserves on a date doesn't offset missing regulation, no insurance, and a recent major breach.

That collapse is worth sitting with. In June, CoinEx's BTC and ETH paid above 10%, high enough that we flagged them as promotional rather than base rates; today they pay 0.54% and 1.64%. A rate that falls four-fold in five weeks was never a base rate you could plan around. Whatever CoinEx pays on the day you read this, treat it as the high-risk end of the spectrum and check it yourself before depositing. This review is not investment advice.

How Earn works on CoinEx

CoinEx Earn is flexible from $1. Today it pays 3.3% on USDT and 2.92% on USDC — ordinary rates, on a venue that is not an ordinary risk.

That is the whole argument for reading a rate next to a grade rather than on its own. Through June the same product paid over 13%, which was compensation for a venue with no major-jurisdiction licence and a 2023 hack behind it. The compensation has largely gone; the licence and the hack have not. Rates here move fast, so verify on CoinEx before depositing, and never deposit more than you can afford to lose.

How to start on CoinEx, step by step

  1. 01If you proceed: keep the position small — this is the high-risk end of the board.
  2. 02Open a CoinEx account and go to Wealth/Earn; pick a flexible stablecoin product.
  3. 03Treat the rate as a snapshot and check CoinEx's own proof-of-reserves page before trusting it with size.
Verdict

Should you park money here?

✓ Pros
  • +Highest stablecoin rates on our board (~13.25% USDT, ~12.43% USDC)
  • +Publishes Merkle-tree proof-of-reserves, audited by SlowMist (1:1)
  • +Flexible products with a $1 minimum; not our affiliate (no incentive to over-rate it)
✕ Cons
  • −Grade D — no major-jurisdiction licence and no real insurance fund
  • −September 2023 hot-wallet hack of ~$70M (Lazarus Group suspected)
  • −BTC/ETH yields above 10% read as promotional, not stable base rates
  • −Highest rate on the board = highest risk; size accordingly
⚖️
Our verdict.CoinEx is the board's cautionary tale: the highest stablecoin rate (13%+) attached to a grade D — no major licence, no real insurance, a 2023 $70M hack. Proof-of-reserves is its one redeeming feature. The rate is real, but it's pure risk compensation. Fine only as a small, eyes-open allocation; not where you park money you can't lose. Not financial advice.
